Teen Hockey Player with Spinal Cord Injury Gets Emotional Homecoming at Minnesota Wild Game
At a recent Minnesota Wild preseason game, 18-year-old Jackson Drum received a hero’s welcome — marking his first time back at a hockey rink since a devastating spinal cord injury nine months ago. Jackson was injured last winter while playing prep school hockey when he was checked hard into the boards, leaving him temporarily paralyzed.
After months of intensive rehabilitation and therapy, Jackson has regained partial mobility and continues to make progress. The Wild invited him to be part of a special pregame ceremony, where he was honored at center ice to roaring cheers from the crowd and both teams. Players lined the bench to applaud as Jackson waved to the fans — a moment symbolizing resilience, recovery, and the hockey community’s support.
Here is Jackson and his mom talking about his injury and recovery.
