HALLOWEEN THEMED!

“Miiddle Ages ‘Mumming’…How About A Halloween Fruitcake!…& Grab the T.P. It’s Mischief Night!!’”

Trick-or-treating was also inspired by a tradition called “mumming” from the Middle Ages.  People dressed up as ghosts and demons, and went door-to-door performing songs and scenes from plays in exchange for food and drinks.

Halloween originated in Ireland, and some of the customs there include:  Eating ‘barmbrack,’ which is a traditional fruitcake . . . lighting bonfires . . . and setting off fireworks.

Halloween Eve, October 30th, is known in some states as “Mischief Night” . . . and it’s celebrated with vandalism.  Typical kid stuff like throwing eggs and toilet paper.  The term is common in the Philadelphia area, as well as in New Jersey and Delaware, among others.
