Radio, At Sign & Canada

“Keep It Canadian 1/3 Of The Time-Ay!…Let’s Make The ‘At’ Sign Famous….& Imagine Having Some Good ‘Efisga’ Bacon!”

Radio- Canadian radio stations are required by law to play Canadian artists on the airwaves at least 35% of the time.

At Sign- A man named Ray Tomlinson is credited with deciding to use “@” (the “at symbol”) for email . . . to separate the username from the destination machine.  This was in 1971.  Before that, the symbol was relatively obscure. Ray was working on the earliest email program . . . the ARPANET system . . . which was the first time mail could be sent between different computers.

Canada- Canada was almost named “Efisga,” which stood for England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and Aboriginal lands.
