Nolan’s Odyssey Sparks Accent Uproar
The trailer for Christopher Nolan’s new adaptation of “The Odyssey” has people talking. Not about the plot or the special effects . . . but about the ACCENTS. That’s because everyone speaks with an American accent, instead of a British one. Now, “The Odyssey” is a GREEK epic, but it’s become an unwritten rule that characters in serious period pieces like this have Brit accents. It gives their words more gravity and / or timelessness. Even the “Game of Thrones” shows use British accents, and they don’t even take place on Earth. (Here’s another look at the trailer. The movie hits theaters on July 17th.)
