Eau Claire Police have released more details about an accident that injured a teen in a high school parking lot earlier this month.
The accident happened in the lot on the east side of Memorial High School on August 7th a little after 7pm. Police say witnesses saw two teens come out of the school. A 16-year-old boy got into the driver's seat of a minivan, while a 17-year-old boy jumped on the hood, facing forward. The driver said he accelerated to around 30 to 35 miles an hour, then saw the rider losing his balance and slowed down. The rider then fell off and was run over, suffering a head injury. Police say the witnesses and evidence support the driver's statement, though they have not determined the actual speed of the van. The injured teen is recovering from serious injuries. When the investigation is completed, the case will be forwarded to the Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office for review.
